Tonlé Sap Lake
midmorning hammock—
swinging,
the night fisherman
nets the day's
best catch
Notes There are something like 500 species of fish in Tonlé Sap Lake just outside of Siam Reap, Cambodia. It's the largest lake in Asia, and full of houseboats where families live making a living from fishing and supplying the fish which makes up a major part of the typical Cambodian's diet. This photo isn't very good, as the light was poor and I was on a moving boat, and, of course, I'm a hack photographer at best. Nevertheless, the photo inspired the haiku, so it succeeded for me in that regard.
