wildebeest
Serengeti National Park (2017)
wildebeest
going on forever
the smell of poop
One of the amusing surprises upon arriving in the Serengeti for the Great Migration is realizing that the entire place carries and odor of poop and animal funk. Considering that there are over a million wildebeest along with zebra and the predators that follow their circular route month after month, year after year, I guess I should have expected it. It's not really that unpleasant––and you do get used to it––but its the kind of thing they don't mention in the travel brochures. You honestly can't take more than a few paces in the grassland without seeing manure or bones. Hakuna matata! .
