In the Vajrayana pantheon, Vidyādharas are semi-divine yogis and yoginis who act as protectors to the inner-circle of a spiritual location such as a temple grounds. They are joined by other supernatural spirits—yaksas, vetālas, rāksasas, and more assorted spooks—who guard the outer circle and approaches to the sacred ground.
