Bram Stoker

Bram Stoker

created a character toothed in red ochre

though the voivode at the heart of his inspiration

chose impalement as his preferred palliation

Photo from the grounds of the castle in Transylvania that some believe was the inspiration for the setting for Stoker’s famous novel. The place certainly had a haunted vibe to it, but more in the sense of melancholy than horror, at least for me.
