This is quite literally the view from Shah Jahan’s prison cell in the Red Fort overlooking the Taj Mahal. It is one of my most poignant memories from my travels in India. The rain and intense humidity imparted a real heaviness to the morning that matched the tone of the story and the romanticized version of it that filled my head while taking in the incredible view.
